Sorority Living
Many of our sororities have chapter houses, an aspect of sorority life that distinguishes the University of Arizona from many other campuses. The average number of active members living in a chapter house is 50. Thus, living in the sorority house is truly a "home away from home." Each house is managed on a day-to-day basis by a full time House Director (usually a house mom). Chapter house operations are also overseen and managed by a local House Corporation Board, which is a group of alumnae that oversees the chapter's finances, hires a professional full-time kitchen staff, and advises the upkeep and remodeling of the facilities. Many chapter houses provide you with spacious study areas, TV rooms, computer labs, three meals per day, and on campus parking.
Most chapter living facilities house only active women, (usually sophomores and juniors). Almost all New Members and freshmen live in their respective residence halls or off-campus apartments or houses. Due to the fact that most sororities fill their chapter houses in the preceding spring semester, there is typically no room for New Members to live in the chapter house during the fall semester and very few the semester following Formal Membership Recruitment.
All New Members are welcome to visit the chapter house at any time throughout the day; lunch and a specific number of dinners and weekend meals are provided to New Members. Living in a sorority house is extremely convenient, economical, and a great way to develop the memories that you will remember for years to come.
