Panhellenic Council Recruitment is August 15th through the 21st for the Fall 2007 Semester.

What is Panhellenic?

When you join a sorority at the University of Arizona, you become a member of an even larger organization, the Panhellenic Council.

The Panhellenic Council is the governing body of the sororities; it consists of six executive officers from various chapters, two representatives from each chapter, and a Coordinator for Greek Life. The Panhellenic Council meets bimonthly to discuss current issues and upcoming events. It is also responsible for local Panhellenic operation in accordance with the National Panhellenic Conference (NPC) policies and procedures.

The NPC is a conference of women's private social fraternities and sororities founded in 1902, which includes the 26 member national and international women's fraternity and sorority delegates. The University of Arizona Panhellenic Council is comprised of 12 NPC sororities and six community service based sororities. The Panhellenic Executive Board sponsors Membership Recruitment Week and directs the Recruitment Counselors. Please speak to an Executive Officer or Recruitment Counselor about any comments, questions, or concerns regarding Recruitment.

What are Recruitment Counselors?

Our 56 Recruitment Counselors are active members of the Greek community as well as student leaders involved in various activities on campus. They have pledged to disaffiliate themselves for the duration of the Membership Recruitment Week and help you in making the important decision of choosing the sorority that is right for you.

Our Recruitment Counselors are synonymous with "camp counselors," in that they are knowledgeable of all pertinent Membership Recruitment policies, rules, and procedures. Counselors have taken a course in which they have learned not only about the national structure of Panhellenic, but also about the many departments, organizations and resources available to incoming UA students. Feel free to ask them questions about any aspect of our campus as they are eager to meet you and are excited about making your first experience both positive and fun.

Membership recruitment is a mutual selection process, by which both the Potential New Member and sorority will determine the place best suited for that individual. Membership recruitment is an opportunity for you to visit all of the chapters on our campus and see if Greek Life is something you would enjoy.

During the Membership Recruitment Week, Recruitment Counselors and Panhellenic Executive officers are there to help you in making the right choice in joining a sorority.

You will meet many members from every chapter and learn what their chapter has to offer you. As the week continues, you will attend fewer, yet longer events. Upon the culmination of the week, you will attend the final event, Preference Night. It is at this time when you will make a final decision in selecting the sorority which is right for you.
