Dear Future Wildcat!
Congratulations on your decision to join us at the University of Arizona! You can only begin to imagine the opportunities that await you and the experiences you will accumulate in your time here. As one of the premier institutions in the country, the University of Arizona will set you on the right path to success.
Students that are involved in co-curricular activities not only enrich their college experience, but also develop skills that are essential to life after college. Greek Life will offer you the opportunity to excel in academics, leadership, service and social skills in a way that no other organization on campus can. Think about the thousands of other freshman beginning their college career at the same time you will. Joining a fraternity will allow you to have an experience that is manageable, and not feel lost on a campus of 37,000. You will join a network that will help you find your own place so you can reap the benefits years after college.
Whether you're struggling with classes, or looking for guidance, your fraternity can offer incredible resources. Some of these resources are advisors; past experience in classes from older members; and often times, extensive libraries. Greeks hold the vast majority of campus leadership positions and contribute thousands of hours of community service to the UA and Tucson communities each year. In addition to participating in the University of Arizona intramural sports programs, Greeks host their own leagues, tournaments and competitions. Socially, you will find yourself abound with opportunities. Homecoming, Greek Week, and theme parties are just a few of the chances that you will have to meet friends and find your niche here.
Personally, when I came to the University of Arizona, I did not even consider joining a fraternity. My family did not have a Greek history and honestly, I saw no point. Now I can't imagine what my college experience would be like and where would my journey would have taken me had I not gone Greek. I am proud to part of one of the largest and most active Greek communities on the West Coast. No matter what your needs or goals, there is a fraternity that will work for you. Good luck as you join me as a Wildcat and I hope to see you during Rush in the Fall.
Fraternally, Michael Katzman

IFC Rush Process
“Rush" is a word that described the Membership Recruitment process of men’s Greek-letter organizations. The word “Rush” was used because fraternity men used to rush to train stations to greet incoming freshmen at the beginning of each school year.
During Rush, you have the chance to visit and meet with each of the twenty-one fraternities recognized by the University of Arizona to see which one best suits you. At this time, you are not obligated to visit every fraternity, but we encourage you to because each has something different to offer.
(more information about fraternities on campus) (financial obligations of each chapter)
Formal Rush begins on August 28th and ends on September 1st and runs from 11am to 11pm daily. The fraternities will post a schedule of events they have planned for the week. Once again, there is no requirement to go to all of these activities; you can pick what you want to do. The first day of Formal Rush, August 28th, there will be an informational meeting in Social Sciences and an opportunity to meet with members from our chapters. There will also be tables on the University Mall (by the Student Union Memorial Center) where the fraternities will be represented and available for questions before the Formal Rush Week.
On September 2nd, the Interfraternity Council will distribute bids for each chapter to rush guests. A bid is simply an invite to join the organization. A bid is good for one year so you may take your time in choosing to accept a bid. You may be offered multiple bids, so this will give an extra opportunity for you to make your decision.
There are no requirements for you to go through Rush. The Interfraternity Council does not require a minimum grade point average to go through Rush, nor does it charge a registration fee. However, each chapter has its own grade requirements that you may be subject to.
If you are interested in Rush, please fill out the information request on-line. Your information will be available to the twenty-one fraternities on campus and is our way to get information on people who are interested in joining our fraternities.
The Interfraternity Council wants to ensure you have a smooth transition into the University of Arizona. If you have any other questions, please do not hesitate to call us at (520) 621-2934.
