The Union Galleries in the new Student Union offers a unique collection that features a variety of media, which is on display year round. The Union Galleries have served the community since 1973 by exposing students and employees of The University of Arizona and off campus visitors to original art by regional and nationally prominent artists. The galleries heighten awareness of both current and ongoing issues and creative processes, which encourages open dialogue and personal introspection. Students are welcome to work directly with the Union Galleries Curator to gain experience in hands on gallery management.

The Union Galleries are open:

Monday - Tuesday, Thursday - Friday: 12pm - 6pm
Wednesday: 12pm - 8pm

   Guts/Plane/Figure
Kachina Gallery and Lounge

In these works, Joe Dal Pra channels the experience of flipping through some of the more obscure reality TV shows: from military weapons programs to reality surgical TV, and some in between. Joe combines imagery from fighter plane kits, a human anatomy kit and action figures. The clean engineered form of a fighter plane flips to the scene of a hospital surgery in a click. Although inspired by thoroughly modern phenomena, and moving through a 21st century process (manipulating digital photos to arrive at the ideal silhouette), the primitive feel of the works is still surprisingly visceral.
