The Union Galleries in the new Student Union offers a unique collection that features a variety of media, which is on display year round. The Union Galleries have served the community since 1973 by exposing students and employees of The University of Arizona and off campus visitors to original art by regional and nationally prominent artists. The galleries heighten awareness of both current and ongoing issues and creative processes, which encourages open dialogue and personal introspection. Students are welcome to work directly with the Union Galleries Curator to gain experience in hands on gallery management.

event :: view calendar times    Defaced: A Found Archive, exhibition by Coriana Close: Union Gallery, 3rd floor of Union MFA student Coriana Close's found works feature mutilated books, whose pages surround you, that were discovered within the UA's Main Library collection. These scanned pages represent a small fraction of a found image archive. While mutilation of books is a nearly universal problem amongst public library collections, it usually takes the form of highlighting, note taking, and page removal. In contrast, however, these pages have been systematically annotated, illustrated, and in effect rewritten. In this exhibition, the artist has selected key images to address issues of racism, misogyny, anonymous and free speech, and how these acts of vandalism effect the public at large.
