Graduate Assistant for Fraternity & Sorority Programs (Aristotle)

Primary function of the position: Provide advising, program development, and leadership in various aspects of Fraternity & Sorority Programs. Position is a one half time (20 hours a week) ten month appointment. Remuneration is a per current annualized fiscal salary (approximately $10,000 plus an out-of-state tuition waiver) for 50% fiscal year Graduate Assistant - figures provided by the Graduate College. This position reports to the Coordinators for Fraternity & Sorority Programs, includes some weekend and evening hours, and includes the following primary duties and responsibilities:

  • Present workshops and oversee the Aristotle Academic Program in coordination with Fraternity & Sorority Programs Staff. The Aristotle Program is a set of skill based academic workshops presented to students to help them reach their full academic potential.
  • Assist in advising at least one of the four governing Councils within the Greek community. This includes advising the respective executive board and cabinet officers, the respective chapter presidents, and working with the respective chapter advisors and national officers.
  • Provide educational programs and workshops to individual chapters and new member classes upon request from the chapters.
  • Help coordinate and/or advise, develop, and implement the following programs, which may include: Presidents’ Retreat, IFC/NPHC/PHC Executive Board Retreat, Greek Judicial Board training, GREAT Greek Weekend, Officer Transition Institute, Greek Awards Banquet, and New Member Symposium.
  • Participate in the Center for Student Involvement & Leadership’s (CSIL) planning and program assessment activities. Attend CSIL staff meetings and participate in staff training activities, including Professional Development Brown Bag Series.
  • Help coordinate and teach one leadership class for credit; classes may include ANGLE, Leadership, or Greek Life 101.
  • Participate in weekly Fraternity & Sorority Programs Team meetings.
  • Participate in weekend on-call rotation.
  • Assist with Greek Life research initiatives
  • Coordinate semester GPA/Statistical reports, annual Greek Life Demographics report and annual Housing/Financial survey. Assist with the development of the Chapter Presidents’ and Chapter Advisors’ manuals.
  • Other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
1. Bachelor’s Degree
2. Admission to a University of Arizona Graduate Program

Additional Preferred Qualifications:
1. Previous experience with social Greek-letter organizations.
2. Experience working with students one on one in a mentorship capacity.
3. Previous experience working with or advising students/volunteers and/or student organizations.
4. Previous experience in program/conference planning and presenting leadership workshops.
5. Computer literacy (Word, Excel, Access, and PageMaker)
6. Ability/desire to make a 2 year commitment
