The Arizona Student Unions have 13 black, four compartment recycling bins located throughout the Park and Memorial Student Union buildings. All 13 bins are in the Student Union Memorial Center. Plans exist to expand recycling services to include Park Student Union soon. The bins are emptied and maintained by the Arizona Student Unions custodial services. Materials collected from these bins are recycled at different locations depending on the particular material.
Due to construction at the Student Union Memorial Center and the associated lack of space and access, all recyclable materials are commingled as much as possible. Fibrous materials such as white paper and newsprint must be kept separate from other commodities such as glass, plastic, or tin. All materials except cardboard are hauled to Friedman Recycling by Arizona Hometown Hauling.
Here is a list of the ways the Arizona Student Unions recycle:
Arizona Recycler Mug - Reusable plastic mugs that keeps cold drinks cold and hot drinks hot are sold by the Arizona Student Unions to encourage waste reduction. Refills in these mugs are given at a reduced price at Student Union operated food service outlets located around campus.
Aluminum Cans - Collection bins are located in and around the Student Union. They were at one time emptied into storage containers behind the Student Union where they were crushed and separated from contaminants by student groups who are interested in the income generated from recycling them.
Newspaper - Collection bins are located in and around the Student Union. They are emptied into a white paper and newsprint bin behind the Union.
White Paper - White paper boxes are located throughout the Student Union, mostly in offices and near Fastcopy, the Student Union's full service copy and design outlet. They are emptied into a white paper and newsprint bin behind the Union.
Plastic Bottles - Collection bins are located in and around the Student Union. They are emptied into the large recycling bin behind the Student Union.
