What is PostSecret and how can I participate? |
| |
PostSecret is a nationwide art project Frank Warren started in 2004. He began asking random people he met on the streets of Washington DC to write and illustrate a secret on a blank postcard. The anonymous secret had to be true and it had to be something they had never shared before. It has been three years now since Warren’s secret search in Washington DC and PostSecert has become an international phenomenon! Now you can become part of this one of a kind art project by submitting your secrets to one of the many drop boxes located around the student union or you can email your secrets to Postsecret Union Gallery SUMC, Rm 364 P.O Box 210017. Make sure to also come to the opening reception on November 5th at the union gallery and a special presentation by Frank Warren himself on November 27th! For more information about PostSecret log on to www.unoin.arizona.edu/gallery and make sure to submit your anonymous dusty secrets itching to be told! |

Do I have to be a member of a sorority or fraternity to register for CATwalk? |
| |
CATwalk is a public fundraising event, which has donated more than $120,00 to the Bobbi Olson fund for women’s cancer research! Today, Lute Olson in conjunction with the UA Fraternity and Sorority students continue raise funds for the Division of Women’s Cancers at the Arizona Cancer Center. The good news is: you can help! The first step is registering, which you can do online. When registering, you will be given the choice between the 5k non-competitive walk and the 10k run. Both races begin around noon, so your walk or run will be in the pleasant warmth of a November afternoon! Any race you decide to run, make sure to mark your calendars and support a good cause. And remember to bring all your friends! |

What is the reason behind the reconstruction of the Student Union in 2003? Are there plans for expanding more and adding more restaurants, stores or other accommodations? |
| |
In 2003 the Union was about 50 years old and was in dire need of remodeling! Since then, the Unions have added several new restaurants and services, but we find that students want more! With a variety of services and restaurants, the Student Union Memorial Center is now one of the five largest collegiate unions in the nation. And our student union is very unique since it is self-supporting-taking in no tuition dollars nor any state funding; therefore, any services come straight from the Unions' budget. If students want any additional services, funding becomes an issue. Would UA students support a fee for their services? Remember, the Unions are here as a resource and are always here to support and ease your life as a student, so enjoy the Unions and take advantage of all the beneficial services we offer! |

Has anyone considered doing something to shorten the lines in the Union restaurants? |
| |
Answer: I understand that long lines and limited time are an unpleasant combination, and yes, there are ways to move through them efficiently for yourself and everyone behind you. The first step is to pay with your Meal Plan. Let's face it, the fastest way to pay is to swipe your CatCard. CatCard-linked Meal Plans are faster than cash, faster than credit cards (the slowest), and if you use the Commuter Plan, there is no minimum deposit. Another way to help get through quickly is to check out the menus online before going. And while you're online, you can add money to your Meal Plan! Also, if you are concerned about your diet, you can find all of the nutritional information in advance on the same site [www.union.arizona.edu/dining]
So if you and your friends are heading to lunch at the Unions, take a second to pass alonge these helpful tips. Who knows? If everyone pitches in, we might get more time to eat and talk!

Are there any study rooms in the Student Union Memorial Center? |
| |
It seems that the student union never rests! It's restaurants and services for students, staff and faculty seem to be the headquarters of the university! And while you may be thinking that there is no such thing as a quiet place in the Union, there is! If going to the library or ILC seem to be too much of an inconvenience after your tasty lunch here, why not head over to one of the Union's tranquil lounges to catch op on homework? Try the Kachina Lounge right across from Cactus Grill, where you can study AND look at artwork. Or try the Honors Lounge, also on the third level, and the Commuter Lounge on the top floor, where there are also computers to check your email and televisions to take a break from homework. And, of course, the Alumni Lounge is right next to Core, and the USS Arizona Lounge next to that. So, when you need to do homework, remember to include the Union as one of your many studying places! |

Are there any sit down restaurants in the Student Unions? |
| |
The Student Unions offer plenty of choices on the second floor of the SUMC, like Café Sonora, 3 Cheese & a Noodle, the new Core, and IQ. While generally, all you may have time for is a quick meal, sometimes you are lucky enough to have some time to sit down, take a breath and eat!
For those days, the Unions offer a formal sit down restaurant, the Redington, on the third floor of the SUMC. It has an all-you-can-eat buffet that serves a variety of hot dishes and sweet desserts. Of course, if you need to stretch out a bit, there's plenty of seating at the Cactus Grill. Or, if you are up for some comedy while you relax and eat, try the Cellar, in the SUMC Cellar, at noon on Fridays. What restaurants do you recommend for vegetarians? |
| |
The Union's menu consists of a variety of vegetarian options! One of the best places to eat if you are vegetarian is IQ fresh. IQ offers plenty of healthy options with many vegetarian wraps like the filling Portobello mushroom wrap or try the fresh grilled veggie wrap! They also have ice-cold fruit smoothies that will satisfy anyone's thirst. You may also want to try Cactus Grill, located on the second floor of the Student Union; there you will be able to combine your choice of crisp greens for an ideal salad! There are also vegetarian options at 3 Cheeses & a Noodle and Café Sonora.
And YES! Core opens this Thursday!!!! and it will vastly contribute to the Student Union's vegetarian menu! Pick from over 100 veggie toppings and have them tossed over salad greens or steamed over brown rice. YUM! |

I heard there are art galleries in the Union, where? |
| |
You can sit in a corner and look at a beige wall or you could take advantage of that break between classes to check out some art in the Unions! The Union Gallery offers spectacular art from a wide range of artists and also offers students, faculty and staff a chance to exhibit in the Union. Come see photographs by Chris Dunker, which will be on exhibition until September 20th. If you enjoy Cuban art, come enjoy some the "Café Vi: The Journeys of Cuban Artists," which will be on display from September 28th to October 29th, and has movies and lectures to go with it. And PostSecrets is coming in November. So, when you are walking around with an extra half hour on your hands, come check out some art at the Union Gallery or the Kachina Lounge, both located on the third floor of the Student Union. I am a freshman this semester and I want to become involved but I don't know how. |
| |
What a great idea! Becoming involved in the Student Unions is only a sliver of all the opportunities available at the UA! There are numerous ways to get involved! The first is working here, as I have already mentioned (jobs are listed on Wildcat Joblink, www.career.arizona.edu). Another option is to join a club or organization. The best place to start is at the Center for Student Involvement & Leadership (CSIL), located on the 4th floor of the Student Union. Within CSIL there are a bounty of programs and services, and people to guide you toward that perfect extracurricular activity! CSIL will help you find the perfect organization to volunteer for, the ideal club and perhaps the best fraternity or sorority for you! Whatever program you decide to dedicate your very precious time to, the Student Unions is one of best places to begin your search! |

Revitalize your typical lunch with the fresh new menu at Café Sonora! |

Now that we are back into the usual school routine, a little spice to mix up your day on campus could help ease your hectic schedule! Check out Café Sonora, on the second floor of the Student Union Memorial Center, to cool down from the sizzle of the sun and enjoy some savory new dishes. Try the new grilled steak burrito with fresh sautéed veggies, Spanish rice and other tasty ingredients! And for you veggie lovers, Vegan Delight with TVP is available in burritos, tacos and salads, and if you haven't tried the new Rocky Point tacos, you are missing out. If you are light eater, Café Sonora is great because you can order à la cart, or for bigger appetites you can choose from different combinations! Make sure to dip into their new salsa bar, which will tickle your taste buds! Remember, when you are contemplating what you will have for lunch, stop by Café Sonora and try their new menu! |

Besides recycling in the Unions, are there other places to recycle throughout the campus? |
| |
First of all, I would like to say thank you for recycling! It's a great thing you are doing and something everyone can participate in. The Student Unions offer a variety of ways to recycle your trash, for example: aluminum cans, newspaper, and white paper among others. There are also other programs on campus that aim to get everyone recycling-especially the big Recycle Mania competition held annually by our friends over at Residence Life (recycle@life.arizona.edu). For more information about Campus Recycling, call the Campus Recycling Office at 520-621-1264. And for more information about recycling at the Student Unions, feel free to log on to www.union.arizona.edu, click on About Us and select Recycling. Finally, let's all try our best to do our part in recycling to make this campus cleaner! |

I would like to get a job at the unions and I was wondering if having my hair dyed pink or another unusual color would hinder my prospects? |
